Karma Kitchen

Saturday, November 5th, 2011

Check out this great video on KarmaTube.com.  It’s about a pay-it-forward restaurant, Karma Kitchen, with locations in Chicago, IL, Wash, DC, and Berkeley, CA.  I love the idea of a gift economy.  So inspiring to see that it has been working for 4 years, and counting…and can’t wait to see more things like it come about.

Yoga Family Style

Wednesday, September 7th, 2011

A couple weeks ago, my Mom’s family got together for the 1st ever annual reunion.  We meet in the Pocono Mountains and had a wonderful time.  We did two mornings of Yoga.  The first day, just myself leading my Mom, Aunt, and cousin in a gentle morning class.  The following morning, I lead 11 of my family members, ranging in age from 10-66, some advanced students, and some who this was their first class ever.  All enjoyed, and some new yogis may emerge from the group.  I LOVE sharing yoga, and am grateful for all who joined me.

Time to Meditate

Monday, March 7th, 2011

I was sent this blurb today in an email from the Key West Tara Mandala, our local Tibetan Buddhist community.  I ended up reading the whole article because I often find myself in the position the author describes, feeling like I just don’t have enough time for my daily meditation.  The blurb reads,

What’s the biggest obstacle to meditation practice?
There are always obstacles to daily practice. Some are quite obvious: traveling, staying up really late, changing your schedule a lot. For the most part, I’ve found the difficult obstacles to be the ones that come from within, those mental tricks we all use—you know, it’s early, it’s cold, I can’t sit. The biggest obstacle is just the mind. You think you’ve got to get up right away and make some phone calls, or have breakfast, or go do this other thing. Your mind always tries to play these tricks. Things suddenly seem really urgent. For me the solution has been to create a schedule, to find myself some disciplined time, to just get up every day at seven no matter what. I’ve made a habit to get up, brush my teeth, sit—in that order—before I do anything else. And then, of course, after you sit you finish and you say to yourself, “What was so urgent that I felt I couldn’t sit?”
–Dan Rosenberg, from “Making Time to Meditate,” Tricycle, Spring 2001
Dan’s contribution to the article is on page 2, but the entire article is worth a read.  Hope you enjoy, and that it may inspire you as it has inspired me.

Where to find me

Wednesday, February 9th, 2011

This week I am excited to update you on my schedule and availability.  It is jam-packed, and I am loving the variety I find in my week.  Keep in mind that all massage and private yoga sessions are by appointment only.

Monday and Thursday mornings, begin your day doing yoga, overlooking the beautiful tropical waters of the Florida Keys,  from 8:30-10:00, on Little Torch Key, at Parmer’s Resort.  These classes are outside, and are a true reminder to why we are here in the Southernmost US, especially during the winter months.

On Monday and Thursday, I continue my day, offering massage in the studio I now share at Good Food Conspiracy, the fun and funky health food store and cafe on Big Pine Key.  I am also available for in-home sessions throughout the Lower Florida Keys.

Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday you can book massage appointments and private yoga sessions with me in the studio I share at the Heron Building, in Key West.  This historic Key West building was built over the water.  You literally “walk the plank” to the entrance.  It was also the filming location for the TV show “Flipper” in the early 1960’s.  I share this space with two other incredible women and teachers, Nancy Curran and Daniela Menardi. On these days, I am also available for in-home sessions in Key West.

On Saturday afternoons, you can find me at Isle Style Salon & Boutique, offering massage and working with my friend Oakleigh, in a beautiful Victorian building on Simonton Street.

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights I am waiting tables at Azur Restaurant, an awesome Mediterranean inspired restaurant on the corner of Fleming & Grinnell, in Key West.   All the money I make from this job will be paying my way for the trip I am currently planning around the world, with an emphasis on Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.  If you are planning to eat out in Key West, consider coming to see me there, for a memorable dining experience.

Well, that’s my fun-filled, jam-packed week in a nutshell.  Contact me with any questions or to set up an appointment.  I look forward to hearing from you.
